Police Arrest Suspect in South Santa Fe Drive Road Rage Homicide

Denver - Thursday, September 5, 2024 - Today, the Denver Police Department announces the arrest of Chyon Kendrick (DOB: 11/21/2002) for the homicide that occurred at approximately 1:47 p.m., on Thursday, August 29, 2024.

On August 29, 2024, a Denver Sheriff's Department Deputy stopped to check on the occupants of a vehicle that appeared to have crashed near the intersection of West Byers Place and South Kalamath Street, and discovered the driver was suffering from an apparent gunshot wound. The adult male victim was transported to the hospital, where he was later pronounced deceased.

Denver Police officers and investigators learned the driver had been involved in a road rage incident prior to the shooting. The findings of the investigation indicate the victim was initially struck by gunfire while driving on South Santa Fe Drive and that the vehicle then came to a stop near South Kalamath Street and West Byers Place. Investigators, with the assistance of witness accounts and video evidence of the incident, identified the suspect as Chyon Kendrick. Kendrick was arrested by Denver Police on Wednesday, September 4, 2024, and is being held for Investigation of First Degree Murder.

The final determination of charges will be made by the Denver District Attorney's Office.
