A Holiday Message from David Long

For me, the holiday season is a time of gratitude and reflection. I'm grateful for the opportunity to work with a talented staff who continuously devote their time to our mission to facilitate, preserve and expand affordable housing opportunities for Texans.

I'm also thankful for the dedicated network of lenders, REALTORS, housing counselors, developers, nonprofits and funders, whose partnerships are fundamental to our success.

Collectively, we continue to address Texas' housing challenges head-on; build on the success of our existing programs; and explore and implement new opportunities to expand our impact.

As we celebrate the end of one year and the beginning of another, I'd like to take a moment to spotlight some of our accomplishments in 2024.

TSAHC's Year in Review:

  • Provided mortgage loans, down payment assistance and/or mortgage interest tax credits to more than 7,400 home buyers (as of October).
  • Created or preserved 983 affordable housing units through our Multifamily Private Activity Bond, Texas Housing Impact Fund and Affordable Communities of Texas programs, including both multifamily housing units and single family homes.
  • Awarded nearly $1.25 million in grants to 82 nonprofit organizations across Texas through our Texas Foundations Fund program and offered a stand-alone disaster recovery funding round to assist nonprofits responding to Hurricane Beryl and other natural disasters.
  • Trained 43 housing counselors and nonprofit developers through our Housing Connection training program and provided hotel scholarships to those traveling from out of town.
  • Launched our fourth Texas Supportive Housing Institute in partnership with the Corporation for Supportive Housing (CSH), training six development teams building permanent supportive housing in Denton, Dallas, Austin, San Antonio, Marshall and Brownsville.
  • Produced six On the House podcast episodes to expand our outreach to lenders, REALTORS®, home buyers, and affordable housing professionals.
  • Participated in more than 20 home buyer and REALTOR fairs, groundbreaking ceremonies, grand opening celebrations, and training kickoff events to spread the word about our programs, celebrate accomplishments with our partners, and engage with program beneficiaries.

To learn more about our 2024 activities and accomplishments, as well as our plans for 2025, I invite you to read our recently released 2025 Draft Annual Action Plan. If you have feedback, please contact Anna Orendain at [email protected] between now and January 24, 2025.

On behalf of everyone at TSAHC, I hope you have a wonderful holiday season. I look forward to continuing our important work together in 2025.

Sincerely,

David Long
TSAHC President
