Sixth-Straight Tax Rate Cut, Major Infrastructure Upgrades, and Investments in Economic Development, Housing, and Public Safety
(BROOME COUNTY, NY) - Broome County residents will see their taxes go down for a sixth consecutive year in 2025, following the approval of the 2025 County Budget Thursday evening. Alongside the property tax rate reduction, the budget includes significant workforce investments, substantial infrastructure upgrades, and expanded support for economic development, housing, and public safety.
The 2025 budget reduces the property tax rate by 0.3%, marking a 24% total reduction since 2018, despite inflation increasing over 25% in that period. This year's budget also allocates $3.9 million to upgrade 271 positions, supporting a fair and competitive wage structure for county employees. In addition to workforce investments, the 2025 budget allocates $5 million to a new Economic Development and Housing Fund, which aims to bolster housing projects and encourage long-term growth across the county.
