Porsche Celebrates The 911 Turbo With A Turbonite-Tinted Throwback

Dedicated fans in Porsche's ever-increasing slice of the performance car pie have new reason to celebrate, as the 50th Anniversary of the Porsche 911 Turbo is upon us.

The company found dramatic success using turbocharged engines on track, first with prototypes like the 917, and subsequently with the production-based 911 RSR Turbo. It was only a matter of time before Porsche's force-fed engines made it to the street. First shown in 1974 and debuting for the 1975 model year, the first Porsche 911 Turbo (also known as the 930) sported a 3.0-liter motor with a whopping 260 horsepower. From there, the rear-engined monster only got more capable and more accessible-if less hairy-over the years.

Officially called the "911 Turbo 50 Years," Porsche's commemoration of this anniversary is based on the 640 horsepower, 2025 Porsche 911 Turbo S (992.1). It will be limited to 1,974 units worldwide in a nod to when it first dropped cover. Fittingly, examples of this limited run are uniquely trimmed with body decals inspired by the Porsche 911 RSR Turbo.

All the expected goodies and capabilities of the standard Turbo S are present, including a zero-to-sixty time of 2.6 seconds, the eight-speed PDK dual-clutch transmission, and Porsche's bevy of electronic suites to keep this top-spec Turbo headed where it's supposed to. Also standard are a black-tipped sport exhaust, Porsche Active Suspension Management sport suspension, front-axle lift, and LED headlights.

Porsche also came up with a new accent color for the Turbo 50, and it is aptly named Turbonite. It will be found on the fuel cap, the rear decklid, and inside the Porsche crest. Ancillary trim is painted Anthracite Grey, as another hat-tip to the 930s of the past.

The interior flaunts seat and door panel inserts with tartan fabric, and trim parts will also be finished in Turbonite. Door sills will illuminate with the "Turbo 50" model designation, and the headrests have stitching to that effect. A numbered aluminum placard sits above the glove box, and Porsche's signature dashboard mounted sub-second clock also has a unique face.

But not all Turbo 50 models will be created equal, as the optional Porsche Heritage Design Package for these cars will come in a retro-1970s Aventurine Green body, with white silk matte graphics and a lollipop to add a racing number (between 0 and 99) inside it. Porsche's eye catching Sport Classic Wheels will be finished in silver and exterior emblems painted gold. Inside the Heritage Design Package has extended leather surfaces and dashboard trim that also receives the tartan treatment.

Owners of the Turbo 50 also have the option to buy an exclusive Porsche Design watch that matches this unique tribute vehicle. The 911 Turbo 50 Years can be yours for a starting price of $263,095 (including destination fees) with expected delivery dates in late 2024.
