UNF hosts Jacksonville Film Festival documentary debut about Dottie Dorion and other trailblazing female athletes

The University of North Florida is hosting the debut screening of "Beyond Triathlon," an inspiring documentary that delves into the evolution of competitive women's sports through the eyes of philanthropist and master-class athlete Dorothy "Dottie" Dorion and other trailblazing female athletes.

The event will take place on Saturday, Oct. 12, from 2 to 5 p.m. at UNF's Lazzara Performance Hall. All proceeds from the event will benefit UNF's Athletics programs. Presented by the Jacksonville Film Festival, recognized as the longest-running film festival in Jacksonville that showcases in-competition and out-of-competition American and international independent films.

"UNF is honored to host the debut event for this film with its inspiring narrative," said UNF President Moez Limayem. "We extend our heartfelt gratitude to legacy donor Dottie Dorion, whose generosity knows no bounds."

Dorion, a long-time supporter of UNF is a founding member of the UNF Osprey Club and an honorary UNF Athletics letterwinner who has established and contributed numerous scholarships for the University. She was also instrumental in the development and construction of the UNF Tennis Complex and provided key funding for the construction of the Dorion Fitness Center in 1978.

"Beyond Triathlon," inspired by the book of the same name, offers a powerful examination of the challenges, triumphs and significant milestones experienced by women on their journeys in master sports. In addition to Dorion, the documentary features iconic figures such as Celeste Callahan, Nancy Hogshead, Jacksonville Mayor Donna Deegan and is narrated by Sika Henry. The documentary is directed and produced by Chuck Malkus and Brian Bayerl.

The film will then be followed by "A Triumphant Toast to Excellence" reception, sponsored by Bacardi. A specially blended spirit, inspired by the women featured in the documentary, will make its debut at the VIP event.
