Blue Turf Thinkers: College of Education collaborates with Duck Valley Reservation

Boise State's College of Education and the Shoshone-Paiute Tribes of Duck Valley Indian Reservation were featured as the Sept. 21 football game's "Blue Turf Thinkers," a series highlighting innovative, trailblazing academic programs during every home game.

The partnership is an ongoing effort to improve outcomes for all students. This year, clinical faculty in the College of Education will travel to Duck Valley throughout the school year to provide on-site professional development. For the first time starting next spring, Duck Valley will provide housing for Boise State student teachers to become full-time members of the reservation community.

College of Education Dean James Satterfield and Assistant Dean Sherry Dismuke were joined by Lynn Manning John, Duck Valley's principal, and Cheryl Hernandez, a teaching assistant at Duck Valley. Boise State students from Duck Valley - Lilli Johnson, Makenna Thorpe and Taylor Blossom - along with future Broncos from Duck Valley - Noah Johnson, Angelina Mason and Nicholas Gartiez - also were recognized.
