Letter Calls for Fair Contract for University of California Librarians

Letter Calls for Fair Contract for University of California Librarians

AAUP president Todd Wolfson sent a letter to University of California president Michael Drake urging the administration to settle a fair contract with UC system librarians represented by University Council-AFT (UC-AFT), unit 17, which includes more than three hundred librarians. The AAUP has long advocated on behalf of academic librarians and their crucial contributions to teaching, research, and service. The Association's Joint Statement on the Faculty Status of College and University Librarians, prepared with the Association of College and Research Libraries and the Association of American Colleges (now the American Association of Colleges and Universities), emphasizes the rights entailed by the faculty status of academic librarians. President Wolfson's letter on behalf of the UC-AFT librarians-who have been in contract negotiations since November 2023-calls for the settlement of a fair contract without further delay.
