Senator Hughes Announces Over $17.5M to Support Public Safety and Security in Philadelphia and Montgomery County

HARRISBURG, September 11, 2024 - Organizations that work in neighborhoods of the 7th Senate District to prevent crime and assist victims will have their efforts boosted by more than $17.5 million in state grants, Sen. Vincent Hughes announced today.

"These grants recognize the efforts of small, innovative groups who have feet on the street in our neighborhoods, as well as larger non-profits who serve the entire region," Hughes said. "It's the root-and-branch strategy that has helped Philadelphia achieve the largest drop in gun violence among America's major cities."

The grants are supported by a variety of federal programs and are directed by the Pennsylvania Commission on Crime and Delinquency (PCCD) through a competitive grant process.

"We have been fortunate to be so successful in this process, but that good fortune is supported by hard work and new ideas," Hughes said. "It's important that we explore all innovations in dealing with crime and violence."
