TWU names Woods dean of nursing college

Aug. 19, 2024 ― DENTON ― Texas Woman's has tapped Stephanie Woods, PhD, an accomplished nursing leader with a wealth of classroom and executive experience, as the university's next dean of the College of Nursing.

Woods begins her new role on Oct. 1.

"Dr. Woods is an innovative leader with a demonstrated record of success in helping students thrive in the classroom and find pathways of their own toward leadership," said Angela Bauer, PhD, TWU's provost and executive vice president for academic affairs. "Her experience and energy will help guide TWU's expanding health presence in Denton, Dallas and Houston."

Woods returns to Texas Woman's after serving six years as dean and professor of the Hunt School of Nursing at the Texas Tech University Health Sciences Center in El Paso. She previously served as associate dean for nine years at the Houston J. and Florence A. Doswell School of Nursing at Texas Woman's Dallas campus.

She currently is a co-investigator for a five-year Hispanic Serving Institute grant focused on pathways into nursing and studying the at-risk nursing student.

Woods earned a bachelor's degree from Texas Woman's, a master's degree from the University of Texas Health Sciences Center at San Antonio and a doctoral degree from the University of Texas at Austin.

She has served on the boards of Parkland Health and Hospital System and Texas Health Resources Presbyterian, as well as the DFW Hospital Council Foundation board while in Dallas. In El Paso, she served on the boards of United Way and Executive Forum, a professional organization of women leaders.

Woods is active in the Association of Nurse Leaders (AONL), Texas Nurses Association (TNA), and American Association for the History of Nursing (AAHN). She also has served on the national board of directors for the American Association of Critical-Care Nurses, and recently ended service as treasurer for the AAHN.
