Moolenaar: Michigan Families Struggle to Pay for Groceries While FLOTUS Talks Nutrition

Today, First Lady Jill Biden will attend an event in Middleville, where she will speak about child nutrition.

"Michigan parents' top priority is putting food on the table for their children, and sadly, that job is harder due to higher food costs caused by President Biden's failed policies. For affordable and nutritious food, we must support family farms here in Michigan, but the Biden administration has made it more difficult for them to grow and harvest the food we need. Finally, the Senate Agriculture Committee, which is led by Democrats, should pass a Farm Bill that supports our farmers," said Congressman John Moolenaar, who represents Middleville in the House of Representatives.

Recent data released by the American Farm Bureau shows that an Independence Day cookout is 30% more expensive than it was just five years ago. The Biden administration has attempted to blame "corporate greed" for inflation, but in 2021, it wanted to take credit for American families saving 16 cents on a summer cookout.

This year, the Department of Labor raised the wage rate for farm laborers in Michigan to $18.50 an hour, the fourth highest rate in the nation. Fifth and sixth-generation farmers in Michigan are hurt by this policy, and they worry that unless something changes, they will be the last in their family to farm. In January, Moolenaar introduced the Supporting Farm Operations Act, which would freeze the AEWR until the end of 2025.
