10/14/2024 - Olympia Parks and Recreation Advisory Committee to host facilities naming public hearing

Naming Public Hearings for Parks Facilities Oct. 17

The Olympia Parks and Recreation Advisory Committee will conduct public hearings at or after6 p.m., on Thursday, Oct. 17, 2024, to receive public comments prior to making recommendations to the City Council regarding the proposed official naming's of the following three park properties: "The Olympia Armory," "Yelm Highway Community Park," and "Kaiser Woods Park." The public shared their name ideas with City staff through an initial public feedback period spanning the month of September.

The Olympia Armory: Having acquired the facility in March 2022, the City seeks to leverage the 50,000 sq. ft. Armory facility located at 515 Eastside St. SE, Olympia, for use as a community art center. The vision for the facility is to support Olympia's artistic, collaborative, and entrepreneurial spirit.

Yelm Highway Community Park: This 86-acre community park property located at 3413 Yelm Highway SE, Olympia, will host Olympia's first dedicated soccer fields, as well as numerous additional park recreational amenities such as pickleball courts, playgrounds and a dog park.

Kaiser Woods Park: This 70-acre park property is located in Southwest Olympia and is slated to be Olympia's first park to have dedicated mountain biking trails. The park development will include over 5 miles of hiking and biking trails with skills areas and features for beginners to advanced riders.

Public Hearing
Anyone interested is invited to attend and present testimony at the public hearing on Thurs. Oct.17, 2024, at 6 p.m. at the Olympia Armory (515 Eastside St SE, Olympia).
