MSUM launches two new graduate programs in Cybersecurity and Business Analytics

MSU Moorhead is now accepting applications to two new graduate programs for Spring 2025: Master of Science (MS) in Cybersecurity and Master of Science (MS) in Business Analytics.

Both programs will offer accelerated pathways, with students able to complete their degree in as little as 12 months. These programs will be visa-eligible with STEM designation for international students, meaning students in the program will be eligible for three years of Optional Practical Training (OPT) upon graduation.

The MS in Cybersecurity will offer a mix of on-campus and online courses, allowing students to connect with like-minded individuals. Graduates of the Cybersecurity graduate program will develop skills and knowledge to protect computer systems, networks, and data from cyber threats.

"With the increasing frequency of high-profile tech breaches, companies desperately require employees skilled in securing corporate networks," said Peter Sherman, Dean of the College of Business, Analytics and Communication, about the importance of the new MS in Cybersecurity.

The MS in Business Analytics can be completed entirely online, with options to take on-campus courses if students wish to. As part of the Paseka School of Business, the graduate program in Business Analytics also enjoys the distinction of AACSB International accreditation. Students in this program will develop skills in data science, AI strategy, and machine learning engineering.

According to the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics, both fields are rapidly growing, with job growth outlooks as high as 36% (Business Analytics) and 33% (Cybersecurity) from 2023-2033. Sherman says these programs will address critical industry needs while appealing to international students.

"Both programs will accept graduates from any discipline, so we look forward to welcoming students from diverse academic backgrounds," he said.

Current MSUM students can pursue the 4+1 accelerated programs in both the MS in Cybersecurity and the MS in Business Analytics. The accelerated programs allow students to complete their undergraduate and graduate degrees in five years.
