Public Invited to Informational Meeting Regarding Computerized Traffic Signal System (CTSS) Replacement on Route 218 in Bloomfield

The Connecticut Department of Transportation (CTDOT) will conduct a public information meeting concerning the Computerized Traffic Signal System (CTSS) replacement along Route 218 (Cottage Grove Road) in Bloomfield on Tuesday, July 30, 2024, at 6:30 p.m.

The virtual public information meeting is being held to provide the public and local community the opportunity to offer comments or ask questions regarding the proposed project. The meeting will take place on Zoom, and registration is required. A question and answer (Q&A) session will immediately follow the presentation, which will be recorded. "The replacement of the Computerized Traffic Signal System (CTSS) communications system will establish reliable fiber optic connections between the signalized intersections along Route 218," said Connecticut Department of Transportation Project Manager John Lockaby. "This project allows CTDOT to monitor and reduce travel times through advanced traffic signal technology, while also upgrading traffic signal detection using non-intrusive sensors to provide additional detection and visual capabilities."

The project's rights-of-way impacts are minimal around existing signal equipment and sidewalks at most project intersections.

Construction is anticipated to begin in fall 2025 based on the availability of funding, acquisition of rights of way, and approval of permit(s). The estimated construction cost for this project is approximately $10.84 million. This project is anticipated to be undertaken with 80% federal funds and 20% state funds.
