November 5 Voter's Guide

It's time to start thinking about when, how, and where you'll vote. You can choose to vote in-person on Election Day, in-person during early voting, or by mail.

What's on the ballot?

Sample ballots will be uploaded to the Voter Registrar's Office as soon as they're available.

Voter Registration

The last day to register to vote for the November 5 Election is Tuesday, October 15. This is also the last day to make any changes to your registration (for example, if you've moved or changed names). You can register online, in person at the Voter Registrar's Office, or by mail after getting an application from any Chesapeake Public Library branch or Treasurer's Office location.

Election Day Voting

Polls will be open from 6:00 a.m. to 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday, November 5. You must vote at your assigned precinct on Election Day. Locate your polling place with this interactive map or by looking up your registration information at Elections.Virginia.gov. Don't forget to bring your approved ID.

Absentee Voting by Mail

Any registered voter can apply to vote by mail. The deadline to apply to vote by mail is Friday, October 25. Your application must be received by the Chesapeake Voter Registrar's Office by 5:00 p.m.

If returning your completed ballot by mail, it must be postmarked by November 5 and received by the Chesapeake Voter Registrar's Office by noon on Friday, November 8. If returning your completed ballot in person, the Chesapeake Voter Registrar's Office must have your completed absentee ballot by 7:00 p.m. on Election Day. You can drop it off in person to the Voter Registrar's Office at any time using the secure outdoor drop box or by bringing it inside during office hours. Mail in absentee ballot drop boxes are also available during voting hours at early in-person voting locations and at all polling locations on Election Day.
