Clarksville City Council proclaims Hunger Action Month in support of children

During regular monthly session Thursday evening, Sept. 5, 2024, Mayor Joe Pitts and the Clarksville City Council, led by Ward 1 Councilperson Brian Zacharias, a local educator, proclaimed September, locally, as Hunger Action Month in the City of Clarksville.

The proclamation was presented to Denise Skidmore, Executive Director of F.U.E.L. (Full of Encouragement and Love) Ministries in Clarksville-Montgomery County.

Ms. Skidmore and Councilperson Zacharias noted Thursday that hunger and food insecurity remain critical issues affecting many families in the community, with one in six children facing hunger, often secretly.

September is recognized nationally as Hunger Action Month, a time when people across the country stand together to fight hunger and raise awareness about the issue.

In Clarksville, the F.U.E.L. program has been a vital resource in the community, providing weekend meals to school children who might otherwise go hungry. Thousands of local children are served by the program each week.

F.U.E.L. relies on the dedication and generosity of volunteers, donors, and local organizations who work tirelessly to ensure that Clarksville's children have access to nutritious food when school meals are not available.

The City of Clarksville recognizes the importance of supporting programs like F.U.E.L. that contribute to the health, well-being, and future success of children. During Hunger Action Month, Mayor Pitts, Councilperson Zacharias and the full Council ask all citizens of Clarksville to join the fight against hunger, by volunteering, donating, and advocating for those in need, and by supporting the efforts of the F.U.E.L. program and other organizations dedicated to ending hunger in the community.

Working together, the goal is to ensure that no child in our community goes hungry.
