Board of Zoning Appeals (BZA)

The City of Clayton is looking for a community volunteer to fill a full term on the Board of Zoning Appeals (BZA). The members of the BZA are appointed to five-year staggered terms by the City Council. The BZA is established by Clayton City Charter chapter 7.02 and governed by Section 1141 of the Clayton Codified Ordinances.

What is the Board of Zoning Appeals? The BZA is a group of volunteer Clayton citizens who serve as:

(1) To hear and decide appeals where it is alleged there is error in any order, requirement, decision, or determination made by the Zoning Administrator in the enforcement of the Zoning Code,

(2) To authorize dimensional and locational variances from the terms of the Zoning Code,

(3) To hear and determine applications for Conditional Uses for the use of land, buildings, or other structures,

(4) To hear and determine the substitutions, enlargement or extension of a non-conforming use existing at the time of the enactment of the Zoning Code.
