School of Nursing holds white coat ceremony

SHEPHERDSTOWN, WV - The Shepherd University School of Nursing held a white coat ceremony on September 13 to welcome the May 2026 class of the Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) and the May 2027 class of the Doctor of Nursing Practice (DNP).

Dr. Angela Fetty, co-chair of the student affairs committee for the School of Nursing, said medical schools around the world hold white coat ceremonies to welcome each class of new nursing students into the profession.

"In 2012, the American Association of Colleges of Nursing partnered with the Gold Foundation to bring this ceremony to schools of nursing," Fetty said. "Shepherd University's School of Nursing was selected as one of the first 100 schools in the nation to receive the foundation's support to begin this tradition."

The first white coat ceremony at Shepherd University took place in 2014 and has been held ever since.

This year's students include: Victoria Ames, Emma Ballenger, Brandon Berry, Rudy Bertile, Isabella Burgess, Emily Byrnside, Alexandra Coy, Isabella Deaver, Courtney Fletcher, Rebekah Forney, Sydney Fulbright, Jordan Grimes, Madison Herb, Elianne Hidalgo Rodriguez, Cameron Hoover, Josie Ingersoll, Benjamin Kessler, Jeremy Le, Natalie McCarty, Calista McCaulley, Emily Moran, Angela Mullins, Madison Peacher, Constance Ritchie, Noor Saleem, Abbie Schellhammer, Suzanna Schmidt, Jacob Sedlitsky, Kennedy Shaver, Taylor Shroades, Emily Speranza, Riley Staub, Dustin Strait, Sara Veara, Anna Walter, Bryce Woods.
