Mycoplasma Pneumonia & Pertussis cases are on the rise in MA.
The Massachusetts Department of Public Health (MDPH) reports a significant increase in cases of respiratory illnesses caused by Mycoplasma pneumoniae (walking pneumonia, atypical pneumonia) and Bordetella pertussis (whooping cough), particularly among school-aged children and adolescents.
The CDC recommends pertussis vaccines for infants and children, adolescents, and people who are pregnant. Additionally, a dose is recommended for adults that have not previously received one.
