Gas Networks Ireland brings Sustainability initiatives to Westmeath and Roscommon as part of SDG Champion Programme

Reflecting the organisation's commitment to promoting sustainability, on 26 June the Minister for the Environment, Climate and Communications, Eamon Ryan TD, appointed Gas Networks Ireland to become one of twenty new Sustainable Development Goal (SDG) Champions in Ireland.

Being an SDG Champion, employees from Gas Networks Ireland recently volunteered to lead a community engagement blitz in Drum, Co. Roscommon and Rochfortbridge, Co. Westmeath. These initiatives, where community support activities occur alongside operational and pipeline work planned for later this year in Drum and Rochfortbridge, is an example of the company's commitment to sustainable development, particularly SDG 3 (Good Health and Wellbeing) and SDG 9 (Industry, Innovation, and Infrastructure).

In Co. Roscommon, Gas Networks Ireland's employees delivered Junior Achievement Ireland's Energize programme, which aims to inspire students to continue with STEAM subjects at a post-primary level to 110 students at Summerhill National School (St. Joseph's) in Drum.

In Co. Westmeath, Gas Networks Ireland partnered with the Local Tidy Towns committee in Rochfortbridge. Employees from the national utility participated in a litter pick; and identified 15 additional locations to be included in updated Rochfortbridge's wheelchair accessibility map.
