Texas Restaurant Association celebrates announcement of MICHELIN Guide Texas

First edition to feature Austin, Dallas, Fort Worth, Houston and San Antonio

AUSTIN, TX (July 17, 2024) - The Texas Restaurant Association celebrated this week's announcement from Travel Texas and the destination marketing organizations of Austin, Dallas, Fort Worth, Houston and San Antonio that the MICHELIN Guide is coming to Texas, and bringing with it, a new opportunity to attract visitors, talent and acclaim for the diverse mix of restaurants that make our state a worldwide culinary destination. The first edition will debut later this year and feature restaurants from the five named cities. Earlier this year, the foodservice industry became the state's largest private sector employer with over 1.4 million Texans and over $106 billion in annual sales.

"The Texas Restaurant Association is grateful to our partners at Travel Texas and the visitors' bureaus from all five cities for working with MICHELIN Guide as they enter Texas-a culinary destination that's already earned a worldwide reputation for delicious, diverse cuisine and warm hospitality," Emily Williams Knight, Ed.D., president and CEO of the Texas Restaurant Association, said. "Consumers want options, especially when they decide where to travel. The MICHELIN Guide Texas will increase foot traffic to all kinds of local establishments because while visitors enjoy one or more meals at an experiential restaurant, they'll also enjoy delicious food from the nearby taco truck, legendary barbecue joint and neighborhood cafe during their stay. All of these culinary experiences and more enrich Texas' food culture and make our state a natural for the MICHELIN Guide."

In Texas, 91% of restaurants are small businesses with fewer than 50 employees. For every dollar spent at a Texas restaurant, $2.35 goes back into the state economy.

"This week's announcement highlights the exceptional quality and variety of our culinary offerings, showcasing Texas' blend of traditional and contemporary flavors. We look forward to seeing the MICHELIN Guide attract new visitors, talent and acclaim to Texas, benefiting the entire industry and state."
