Strengthening International Partnerships at Exercise Super Garuda Shield 2024

The Singapore Armed Forces (SAF) participated in Exercise Super Garuda Shield (XSGS) 2024, which was held in Indonesia from 26 August to 6 September 2024. Co-hosted by the Indonesian National Defence Forces (TNI) and the United States (US) Indo-Pacific Command (INDOPACOM), the 3rd edition of the multilateral exercise involved assets and personnel from 11 countries.

Rear Admiral (RADM) Augustine Lim, Head of Naval Operations, expressed his appreciation for the strong friendship the SAF shares with the TNI, United States INDOPACOM and other participating militaries. RADM Lim said, "Exercise Super Garuda Shield 2024 provided the SAF a valuable opportunity to train in a large-scale multilateral and multi-service setting, and further strengthens our interoperability with militaries within our region and beyond."

The Singapore Army participated in a combined arms live-firing exercise with their counterparts from Australia, Indonesia, Japan, the UK, and the US. The Republic of Singapore Navy (RSN)'s Endurance-class Landing Ship Tank RSS Resolution participated in various maritime and amphibious serials with four ships from the Indonesian Navy (TNI AL) and the United States Navy (USN), including cross-deck landings, air defence serials, manoeuvring exercises, as well as ship-to-shore operations. This year's exercise also featured the inaugural participation of the Digital and Intelligence Service (DIS). DIS personnel conducted professional exchanges on cyber defence techniques with their foreign counterparts during a cyber defence exercise.

As a multilateral exercise involving various countries and services, XSGS is an important platform to promote friendship, mutual understanding, and professional exchanges amongst the participating armed forces. The SAF has participated in XSGS since its inception in 2022.
