TRAFFIC ADVISORY: Lane Closures on Poydras Street from South Liberty Street to LaSalle Street

NEW ORLEANS - The City of New Orleans today announced that beginning at 7 a.m. on Monday, Sept. 23, 2024, the Department of Public Works (DPW) contractor, Hard Rock Construction, LLC, will close one lane in each direction on Poydras Street between South Liberty and LaSalle Streets. These closures are expected to last for approximately two weeks to accommodate drainage repairs, ADA-compliant curb ramp restoration, and street restoration work. Signage and traffic control measures, including barrels and fencing, will be in place to guide drivers and pedestrians.

During the closure, crews will perform the following tasks:

  • Drainage point repairs.

  • Restoration of ADA-compliant curb ramps in the median at Poydras and LaSalle Streets.

  • Street restoration work at the intersection of Poydras and S. Liberty, where temporary asphalt was previously placed by DPW following SWBNO's waterline repair.

These closures are part of the ongoing Poydras Street Improvements Project (S. Claiborne Avenue - South Liberty Street), which began on May 20 and is expected to continue through the end of Oct. 2024. The project includes roadway removal and replacement, re-striping, sidewalk repairs, installation of ADA-compliant ramps, and driveway apron repairs.

Additionally, Poydras Street Improvements (Loyola Avenue - Convention Center Boulevard) are also underway and expected to be completed by Oct. 2024.
