In recognition and memory of Sept. 11, 2001

Announcement
September 11, 2024

Dear DU community members,

Today is the 23rd annual commemoration of the horrific September 11 attacks. Each year, this somber day offers an important opportunity to reflect on those we lost and the impact of such terrible violence.

For so many, not a day goes by when this loss is not felt. Loved ones, friends, colleagues-so many lives were taken and, in many ways, our country was forever changed. We recognize this day to honor those we lost and those who gave so much to help others through this national tragedy.

We stand in gratitude for the first responders who rose to an unimaginable challenge-many losing their own lives that day or, by exposure to toxins, in the years after. We thank as well, the service men and women who continue to put their lives on the line to protect our own. Your heroism and sacrifice are seen, valued and appreciated beyond measure.

Today, DU will toll its bells 23 times at 6:46 a.m. (MT), marking the years which have past and the time when the first plane hit the north tower of the World Trade Center in New York City (8:46 a.m. ET). Please, pause and reflect on those lost and those suffering, as well as those who continue to help, serve, and work toward a more perfect future, for all.

Thank you.

Sincerely,

Jeremy Haefner
