Fort Washington Visitor Center Closure and Rehabilitation

News Release Date:
September 28, 2024

September 25, 2024
NOTICE TO THE PUBLIC
The National Park Service is temporarily closing the Visitor Center in Fort Washington Park while the building is rehabilitated and new exhibits are installed. The Visitor Center will be closed from 12:00 am on September 30, 2024, until 11:59 pm on November 9, 2024.
Violation is prohibited. A map illustrating the closed park areas is attached.
This temporary closure is necessary for the protection of visitors, park staff, and contractors as the nearly two-hundred-year-old building undergoes a minor rehabilitation effort. Maintenance staff and contractors will remove existing exhibits, upgrade electrical components, repaint the walls, and install new exhibits. The historic Fort will remain open Thursday through Sunday and NPS staff will operate an informational table and bookstore in front of the Visitor Center Thursday through Sunday throughout this closure. Persons using these park areas should remove themselves and any personal property from the closed park areas in accordance with the ongoing temporary closure.
The National Park Service appreciates the public's cooperation in this matter.
