Route 51 Lane Shifts Occur Tuesday in Westmoreland County

​Uniontown, PA-Pennsylvania Department of Transportation (PennDOT) District 12 is announcing a traffic pattern shift on Route 51 between McKenery Drive/Snyder Lane and Cobble Lane/Porter Road in Rostraver Township, Westmoreland County, scheduled for Tuesday, October 1.

Existing traffic in the southbound lanes of Route 51 will be moved onto the newly constructed northbound lanes-one lane in each direction-allowing for the closure and reconstruction of the southbound lanes. Ten-foot-wide lane restrictions will continue throughout the work zone.

The configuration is anticipated through July 2025. All work and timeframes depend on weather and operations.

This transition is part of the $120.7M infrastructure investment for the widening and reconstruction of Interstate 70 at the Route 51 Interchange (Exit 46). Crews from Golden Triangle Construction are replacing the current with a Diverging Diamond Interchange (DDI). It includes full-depth roadway reconstruction, updated drainage, updated lighting and traffic signals, and completion of the westernmost structure carrying Route 51 over I-70.

To accommodate the new interchange, one mile of Route 51 is being reconstructed and widened, as well as several intersecting roadways, including the relocation of Finley Road and Route 981. The project is anticipated to be completed in October 2027.
