Crapo, Risch Honor Steve Symms with Senate Resolution

Washington, D.C.-U.S. Senators Mike Crapo (R-Idaho) and Jim Risch (R-Idaho) honored the life and service of former U.S. Senator for Idaho Steve Symms with a Senate Resolution. The Senate passed the resolution by unanimous consent. Symms died at his home in Leesburg, Virginia, on August 8, 2024, at the age of 86.

"Steven D. Symms worked across the aisle for the betterment of Idaho and our country, as he bravely defended our freedoms . . ." states the Resolution. "Resolved, That- (1) the Senate has heard with profound sorrow and deep regret the announcement of the death of Steven D. Symms, former Member of the Senate; . . . (3) when the Senate adjourns today, it stands adjourned as a further mark of respect to the memory of the late Steven D. Symms."

"Senator Steve Symms dedicated his life to public service as a Member of Congress and military veteran," said Crapo. "He worked for the betterment of Idaho and bravely defended our freedoms. He was a dear friend to me and will be missed. I offer my condolences to his family and loved ones."

"Steve Symms was a great friend to Vicki and me," said Risch. "He was a staunch defender of conservative values in Washington, D.C. for the people of Idaho. His commitment to Idaho and conservative principles has stood as an inspiration for our state's leaders. We will never forget the great day President Reagan came to Boise to rally for Steve's reelection to the Senate. What a team they were. Vicki and I extend our deepest condolences to the Symms family."
