Orlov Receives Lederman Environmental Division Service Award from AIChE

Alexander Orlov, a professor of Materials Science and Chemical Engineering in Stony Brook University's College of Engineering and Applied Sciences, was recently awarded the American Institute of Chemical Engineers (AIChE) Dr. Peter. B. Lederman Environmental Division Service Award. This prestigious award recognizes his outstanding service to the institute's Environmental Division, which was transformed under his leadership.

Orlov initiated several fundraising efforts, doubled the annual budget of the division and substantially increased its membership. The award also highlights his leadership role in several AIChE Initiatives.

Orlov is a Past Chair of the AIChE Environmental Division and Research and New Technology Committee (RANTC). He is currently co-chair of the AIChE Sustainable Engineering Forum (SEF) Education Committee and Institute for Sustainability Board Member. The AIChE had previously recognized his education and commercialization efforts with the 2017 SEF Education Award and the 2021 AIChE SEF Industrial Practice Award.

With more than 60,000 members from more than 110 countries, the AIChE is the world's leading organization for chemical engineering professionals. Established in 1908, it addresses many research and educational needs of the US chemical industry that is responsible for 25% of the country's GDP.
