Heinrich, Luján, Vasquez Welcome $1.8 Million for the City of Lordsburg

Investment will renovate downtown Lordsburg, support small businesses, and create new economic opportunities

WASHINGTON - U.S. Senators Martin Heinrich (D-N.M.) and Ben Ray Luján (D-N.M.), and U.S. Representative Gabe Vasquez (D-N.M.) welcomed $1.8 million from the U.S. Department of Energy (DOE) for the City of Lordsburg. This funding was made possible through the Inflation Reduction Act, which was passed by Democrats in the N.M. Delegation.

As a community hosting the Southline Transmission Project, the City of Lordsburg, in collaboration with multiple partners, will launch the Lordsburg Revitalization Project, a comprehensive investment to renovate downtown Lordsburg and bolster economic development, create opportunities for small businesses, and catalyze job growth.

"When I fought to pass the Inflation Reduction Act, I knew that it would bring new jobs and opportunities to New Mexico and across the country. This investment is the latest example of this landmark law delivering for our state - plugging in rural communities like Lordsburg into the strong clean energy economy we're building with projects like the Southline Transmission Project," said Heinrich. "I'm pleased to welcome $1.8 million to the City of Lordsburg to revitalize the downtown area, support small businesses, and create more economic opportunity."

"I am proud to announce $1.8 million from the Department of Energy for the City of Lordsburg Revitalization Project. This substantial investment will enhance infrastructure, support local businesses, and create job opportunities," said Luján. "Investing in our rural communities is crucial for promoting equitable growth and fostering sustainable development. This funding underscores a commitment to progress and long-term success."

"I'm proud to welcome this critical $1.8 million investment for Lordsburg that will transform the downtown area, spur economic development, support small businesses and create much-needed job opportunities," said Vasquez. "In Congress, I will continue to invest in our local economies and uplift hardworking New Mexicans."

This grant is funded through DOE's Transmission Siting and Economic Development Grant Program, a new initiative designed to overcome state and local challenges to expanding transmission capacity while also supporting communities along major new and upgraded lines.
