Heffley: Attempts to Count Disqualified Ballots Undermine Election Integrity

Nov. 15, 2024

HARRISBURG - On Friday, state Rep. Doyle Heffley (R-Carbon) responded to ongoing efforts by Sen. Bob Casey and the actions of officials in Philadelphia, Bucks and Centre counties to count ballots that are illegal with state law in an attempt to reverse the election results and unseat Sen.-elect Dave McCormick:

"Sen. Bob Casey has long positioned himself as an advocate for the rule of law and the sanctity of our judicial system. However, in his pursuit of political interests, he is now openly supporting efforts to break the law and undermine the democratic process. By endorsing actions that attempt to count illegal ballots, Sen. Casey is betraying his principles and attempting to change the outcome of a legitimate election.

"The situation in Bucks County is particularly troubling, as Democratic commissioners there are seeking to count ballots that were previously rejected due to their failure to meet legal requirements. These ballots, which were not counted in the first place because they were not signed or dated properly or lacked the necessary security envelope, are now being reexamined in a clear attempt to overturn the election results.

"The Pennsylvania Supreme Court has made it clear: mail-in ballots must be signed, dated, and in a secure envelope. This is no different from the requirements for in-person voting. The law exists to ensure that our elections are free, fair, and secure, and it must be upheld. Attempts to bypass these laws threaten the very foundation of our democracy."
