Cedar Falls Hosts Pettersen Plaza Ribbon Cutting

The City of Cedar Falls will host a ribbon cutting to celebrate the renovation and expansion of Pettersen Plaza on Friday, September 6, 2024, at 10:00 a.m.

The event will include opening remarks from Cedar Falls Mayor Danny Laudick.

Located in the College Hill district, Pettersen Plaza was named after Cedar Falls citizen Hugh Pettersen who established and developed the College Hill Neighborhood Association and the College Hill Arts Festival.

The renovation of the plaza was part of the Olive Street Box Culvert Project which began in 2023 and included the extension of the box culvert to the west of Olive Street toward Pettersen Plaza. The project incorporated the construction of a box culvert in the stream channel and created a pedestrian access and amenity space above which built on the existing plaza.

The upgrades provided improved pedestrian access and amenity space, fresh landscaping, and enhanced lighting to bring a beautiful and multi-use public space to the College Hill area.

"Providing public spaces and building upon the beauty of our community is a cornerstone of Cedar Falls," said City Communications Specialist Amanda Huisman. "As we work to revitalize and update the College Hill area, the renovation of Pettersen Plaza is a great step in that direction."

Pettersen Plaza is located by 2016 College Street in Cedar Falls.
