Pallone Secures $1.25 Million for Alberta Lake Environmental Cleanup and Restoration Project

Washington, DC - Congressman Frank Pallone (NJ-06) today announced he has secured $1.25 Million in Community Project Funding for the Alberta Lake Environmental Cleanup and Restoration Project in Neptune Township. This crucial initiative will include dredging, environmental cleanup, and replanting of native species to restore the health and functionality of Alberta Lake, a man-made reservoir that plays a vital role in managing stormwater from the surrounding areas.

"This important funding will mitigate flood risks, improve water quality, and beautify the area around Alberta Lake," said Congressman Pallone. "By investing in Alberta Lake's restoration, we're not just protecting our environment; we're safeguarding our community with a stronger, more resilient foundation for all Neptune residents."

Alberta Lake channels outflow to the Shark River and Sylvan Lake, but has been identified by the Shark River Cleanup Coalition as a significant source of pollution. Sediment accumulation and shoreline erosion, particularly along the southern shoreline, pose persistent threats to the lake's ecosystem health and stormwater retention capabilities. Frequent flooding exacerbates these issues, leading to road closures, traffic diversions, and the evacuation of residents from adjacent senior housing.

"This funding is proof that what our Representatives do in Washington D.C. matters greatly to our residents, and that Representative Frank Pallone truly is working for Neptune Township every day," Mayor Rev. Tassie York said. "Our residents that have been impacted in the past by flooding from Alberta Lake, those whose greatest investment is at stake more and more because of the increased prevalence of major storm events, deserve this relief and we appreciate Rep. Pallone for delivering it."

The funding for this project was requested by Congressman Pallone in the Fiscal Year 2025 annual spending bill. Each year, members of the U.S. House may request community funding projects in their district to direct federal resources toward the biggest needs in their communities.
