Draft UW Firearms Rule Topic of Nov. 14 Webinar and Nov. 18 Town Hall

The Firearms Research Center (FRC), which is housed in the University of Wyoming's College of Law, plans two public events to discuss a draft rule to allow the concealed carry of firearms in university facilities.

The draft rule, scheduled to be considered by UW's Board of Trustees at its Nov. 20-22 regular meeting, is expected to be posted on the board's website by 5 p.m. Wednesday, Nov. 13.

On Thursday, Nov. 14, at 12:30 p.m., the FRC will host a webinar featuring Vice President and General Counsel Tara Evans, UW Police Chief Josh Holland, Branding Iron Editor-in-Chief Ven Meester and FRC Director George Mocsary, a law professor. This online event, moderated by FRC Executive Director Ashley Hlebinsky, will provide information about the content of the draft rule, which would allow law-abiding and qualified people to carry firearms in many university buildings.

Students, faculty and staff also are invited to attend and participate in an FRC town-hall meeting Monday, Nov. 18, at 12:30 p.m. in the West Ballroom of the Wyoming Union. Panelists include President Ed Seidel, Evans, Holland, Meester and Mocsary. The in-person event will be moderated by College of Business Assistant Professor Matt Burgess and will allow participants to ask questions, glean insight and, ultimately, weigh in on this important topic.

Questions can be submitted in advance to [email protected].
