Ben Franklin Bridge Unveils Patriotic Lighting to Celebrate Independence Day Weekend

A new, vibrant LED lighting system will illuminate an iconic part of Philadelphia's skyline,
adding excitement to the nighttime sky for holidays and special events.

The Delaware River Port Authority (DRPA) will proudly unveil the new Ben Franklin Bridge south side decorative lighting system just in time for Independence Day celebrations. This state-of-the-art lighting system will illuminate the Camden Waterfront with a patriotic-themed sequence, enhancing the "Celebrate Independence Day at the Freedom Festival" on July 3rd.

Following the electrifying performance by the Gin Blossoms and just before the waterfront's fireworks extravaganza at 9:30 p.m., a breathtaking five-minute light show will captivate attendees, enhancing the festivities with a spectacular visual backdrop.

The new decorative lighting system on the Ben Franklin Bridge showcases a range of dazzling displays, including a specially designed patriotic-themed sequence. Following its debut, the light show will run again at 10 p.m. and 11 p.m. In celebration of the July 4th holiday, the patriotic sequence will also adorn the bridge on Thursday, Friday, and Saturday evenings at 9 p.m., 10 p.m., and 11 p.m.

"The launch of the Ben Franklin Bridge's new decorative lighting system is a milestone for our community and this nearly century-old landmark," said DRPA CEO John T. Hanson. "This innovative system will not only commemorate special events like Independence Day but also foster joy and unity within our community throughout the year."

The Benjamin Franklin Bridge has been an iconic nighttime image along the Philadelphia and Camden waterfronts for decades. Initially adorned with halide spotlights in 1987 and upgraded with dynamic colored LED lights in 2000, the bridge's recent $216.9 million rehabilitation project further enhanced the bridge's lighting with a new energy-efficient LED system, marking a significant advancement in both sustainability and visual impact.
