Talented Seawolf Designers Take Center Stage in Shop Red’s Exclusive T-Shirt Release

The Auxiliary Services Association (ASA) has revealed the winners of the Shop Red T-Shirt Design Contest - Olivia Qiu and Emma Loffredo!

Selected by campus community votes, their unique designs capture the true spirit of Stony Brook University. These special limited edition T-shirts will soon be available at Shop Red West and Southampton Cafe, allowing students, faculty, and staff to proudly wear their creation across campuses. Both students will receive $5 for every shirt sold - bringing their vision to life with every sale.

"We developed this t-shirt contest to give students a chance to show the SBU community what Stony Brook means to them through their creative lens. Through contests like this one and student engagement programs, our aim continues to be to build community together while simultaneously highlighting the incredible talent that exists within our student body," stated Diana Kubik, executive director, Auxiliary Services Association.

The submissions included many diverse designs and styles. Contestants Alexandra Jovic '25, Jordan Yando '25, John Grijalva '26, Olivia Qiu '25, Michelle Shum '25, and Emma Loffredo '25 each submitted a design with a unique perspective of Stony Brook pride. These inspiring designs demonstrate the depth of talent and personal stories that capture the essence of Stony Brook University in beautiful and unexpected ways.

Olivia Qiu '25, T-shirt Design

Olivia Qiu, a mechanical engineering major and digital arts minor, explained that comic book panels inspired her design. "I drew Wolfie, an iconic character, and included some notable places on campus, such as the SAC, Wang Center, and the Zebra Path. I wanted to create a fun and dynamic design while tying in themes about the university."

Emma Loffredo '25, T-shirt Design

Emma Loffredo '25, a marine vertebrate biology major, drew inspiration from working directly with aquatic animals caught in the Shinnecock Bay. "My design included a fish wearing a Stony Brook hat to represent the vibrant marine life and school spirit at the Stony Brook Southampton campus."

The ASA is committed to nurturing student creativity and expression. Recently, ASA hosted a Paint Night event led by talented SBU student artist Diana Raden '25, an art and psychology major, where attendees discovered the joy of painting in a relaxed, social atmosphere. Next spring, the ASA will present an artisan market, offering SBU student entrepreneurs, artists, and crafters a platform to showcase and sell their handmade creations - celebrating Stony Brook's vibrant artistic community.

The Shop Red T-Shirt Design Contest is more than just a competition; it's a celebration of Stony Brook's creative minds and the diverse talents of our Seawolves.
