An Olympic-size thrill at the Golden Age Games

For the last eight years, Army Veteran Jim Reynolds has been a symbol of resilience and perseverance at the National Veterans Golden Age Games. For him, the games are more than just a series of competitions, they're a celebration of life, camaraderie and the indomitable will to keep pushing forward, no matter the obstacles.

More than just medals, he knows the experiences and the people are what truly make the Golden Age Games special.

This year, one memory will stand out above the rest. In Utah, Reynolds experienced the thrill of a lifetime, riding the Olympic Bobsled Track at the Utah Olympic Park. On the same track where the world's best athletes competed in the 2002 Winter Olympic Games, Reynolds and other Veterans received a chance to feel the rush of adrenaline that comes with racing down a chute.

It wasn't just about the thrill of the ride. It was about being part of something bigger, sharing in the legacy of the Olympics and feeling, if only for a moment, like a true Olympian.

The 60-second ride left an indelible mark on him. "I am going to rewatch videos of the bobsled Olympic competition that was held in Utah in 2002. I now have a little understanding of the G-force, the speed, the intensity. I will watch this sport with new eyes," he shared.

Reynolds' introduction to the Golden Age Games started when Fayetteville VA in Arkansas hosted the event. Ever since then he has been participating at the games. Over the years, Jim has competed in a variety of events, from track & field to table tennis and air rifle shooting.

He's earned his fair share of medals, but for him the true rewards are the friendships he's forged and the memories he's created. Each year brings new experiences and new faces, but one thing remains constant… the overwhelming sense of pride and unity that fills the air.

His bobsledding experience is a reminder that there are always new heights to reach and new adventures to take. "Being able to try bobsledding is the highlight of my total Golden Age Games experience. I will never forget it!"
