Leeds School of Arts to host drawing symposium to explore artistic expression

The event 'Drawing Articulations: a Radical Drawing Symposium' will be hosted at Leeds Beckett University's state-of-the-art School of Arts building on Wednesday 26 June.

The symposium will bring together a range of artists, enthusiasts, and speakers to explore drawing practice and will include themes of feminism, post colonialism, play theory, activism, critical theory and new materialism, united by an emphasis on drawing practice.

The event will be brought together through a series of thought-provoking presentations, panel discussion, interactive workshops, performances and film screenings. Attendees will have the opportunity to delve into the radical and experimental approaches to drawing shaping the contemporary drawing art scene.

Dr Joanna Leah, Senior Lecturer in Art and Design at Leeds Beckett, said:''The event will create a series of thought-provoking discussions and presentations for artists and thinkers. It will explore the possibilities of drawing, inspire ways of seeing, creating and curating and develop a network of in the North of England, connecting us to other drawing networks across the UK.

Events such as this are key to highlighting the potential of drawing to surface and trace complexities of lived experience and pressing contemporary concerns."
