Westminster's Alumni Engagement Team were joined by Dr Claire Robertson, Senior Lecturer in Human Nutrition, and Dr Jane Naufahu, Senior Lecturer in Human Nutrition and Performance, to host the third What Comes Next? (WCN) student careers event of the academic year focusing on the subject area of nutrition. The event featured an alumni panel discussion and Q&A session where students gained knowledge and insight from recent graduates who shared their career journeys related to nutrition.
Taking place at Westminster's Cavendish Campus on 5 November, Human Nutrition BSc Honours students had the chance to learn from an alumni panel who reflected on the wide range of career opportunities available for students after graduation. They also held a Q&A and a social networking session where students could ask from and speak directly with the alumni guests.
The WCN programme was introduced as a course-aligned event series in 2021 aimed at sharing the knowledge of recent graduates with current students by inviting them back to speak at the University. WCN events provide students with the opportunity to learn about the career options available to them after graduation and network with alumni in a relaxed, familiar environment.
About the event one student said: "Really grateful for their time, [it] was really interesting to hear about their different experiences", while another added that the event gave them ''a lot of information about potential careers".
James Huke, Alumni Relations Officer at the University, added: "It was fantastic to work with alumni and colleagues from the Human Nutrition BSc Honours course. Their invaluable insights into what they have learnt on their career journeys not only inspire, but also equip our students with the confidence and clarity they need to envision their own paths forward. A huge thank you to our graduate panel for coming back to support our students."
Westminster's WCN programme contributes to the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) 4: Quality Education and 8: Decent Work and Economic Growth. Since 2019, the University of Westminster has used the SDGs holistically to frame strategic decisions to help students and colleagues fulfil their potential and contribute to a more sustainable, equitable and healthier society.
