Volunteering in Nicaragua, CABEI participates in successful reforestation event

Managua, September 20, 2024.- Reaffirming its commitment to environmental conservation, volunteers from the Central American Bank for Economic Integration (CABEI) in Nicaragua participated in a successful reforestation day, during which 500 trees were planted in the Las Plazuelas Nature Reserve, located in the Aguas Agrias Community in the department of Granada-Nandaime.

This annual activity is part of the initiatives of the Corporate Environmental and Social Responsibility System (SASC), designed to reduce the internal environmental footprint, and of the Bank's Environmental Management System (EMS), which aims to offset the paper consumption generated by the Administration and operations carried out in the Bank's office in Nicaragua.

The Las Plazuelas Nature Reserve, with an area of approximately 1,900 hectares, is an important refuge for flora and fauna at the foot of the imposing Mombacho Volcano and has four volcanic lagoons. On this occasion, to promote environmental awareness and good practices, as well as a culture of environmental responsibility among employees, a total of 37 CABEI volunteers and their families joined in the planting of trees endemic to the area, such as genízaro, guanacaste, cortez, oak and royal cedar.

This action is aligned with Sustainable Development Goal 15, which promotes the protection and sustainable management of terrestrial ecosystems and forests. During the last four years, the Bank has planted a total of 2,000 trees in the country through the reforestation campaign.

CABEI's Country Office in Nicaragua is ISO 14001:2015 certified for its Environmental Management System, reinforcing its commitment to environmental sustainability and the fight against climate change.
