Saturday, October 12 Brings Fall Household Hazardous Waste Event For Frederick County Residents

This Saturday, the 12th, residents can take advantage of Frederick County Division of Solid Waste and Recycling's Fall Residential Household Hazardous Waste drop-off event. This semi-annual event ensures residents can responsibly dispose of hazardous waste generated inside Frederick County residences at no cost. Accepted items include materials like pesticides, herbicides, fluorescent bulbs (compact and tube), lithium-ion batteries, button batteries, solvents, and other items that may or may not be marked as "Hazardous Waste."

Important reminders to prepare for this event:

  • This event runs from 8 AM until Noon in the upper-level parking lot of Keys Stadium at 21 Stadium Drive, Frederick, MD 21703.
  • Residents should arrive prepared with an ID showing residency in Frederick County and with an understanding of what items they wish to dispose of.
  • Lines can form during this event, and residents should be prepared for potential wait times longer than 10 minutes. Walk-ups will not be accepted, and residents should stay in their vehicles until directed.
  • Members of the Division of Fire and Rescue will be on hand to share information about the importance of smoke detectors, as DSWR and DFR work together to collect old detectors while ensuring new ones are purchased and installed properly. Residents may see fire and rescue vehicles, but there is no emergency or harm to the public.
  • Residents should enter Stadium Drive from New Design Road as left-hand turns into the event are prohibited and could potentially cause traffic delays or accidents.
  • Please follow all signs and directions from County staff and its on-site contractor.
