Missouri Division of Energy Hosts Kickoff Event for Freight Electrification Planning

On November 14, 2024, the Missouri Division of Energy and the National Association of State Energy Officials (NASEO) hosted a kickoff event for the state's freight electrification planning effort.

Building on the success of the state's previous Alternative Fuel Network planning, Missouri is now developing an action plan for medium- and heavy-duty electric vehicle (EV) charging infrastructure to support freight vehicles operating within the state. The plan will focus on charging infrastructure buildout at high-priority locations throughout the state and will include other actions that stakeholders can take to help support the industry's transition to electric freight vehicles. Missouri may also utilize this plan to pursue federal funding opportunities (e.g., Charging and Fueling Infrastructure competitive grants available through the Federal Highway Administration) to support economic development and infrastructure buildout within the state.

NASEO is supporting Missouri's freight electrification planning efforts, including the kickoff event. A diverse group of stakeholders participated in the kickoff, including electric truck manufacturers, electric transport refrigeration unit manufacturers, the Missouri Trucking Association (MoTA), Clean Cities and Communities groups, electric utilities and utility associations, Missouri Public Service Commission staff, local government, labor and nonprofit subject matter experts.

At the event, key stakeholders were invited to discuss their freight electrification work to date, share their perspectives, inform the planning effort and have their questions answered. The Missouri Division of Energy and NASEO will be incorporating stakeholder feedback and priorities into the state's draft plan, which will be shared for additional feedback by spring 2025.
