The Bloomsburg University Foundation is honored to announce the establishment of the Sharon Fisher '13 and Auston Fisher '23 Nursing Scholarship, an endowed fund generously established by Bloomsburg University alumna Sharon Fisher '13. This scholarship will provide critical financial support to nursing students at Commonwealth University (CU)-Bloomsburg.

Sharon's deep connection to Bloomsburg University began sixteen years ago when she joined the University as Clerk 1 in the International Education Office. While working at the University, she pursued and completed her bachelor's degree in business administration in 2013.

Throughout her tenure at the University, Sharon has held various positions within the University's advancement division and is currently the Director of Stewardship & Campaign Planning. Her extensive experience in launching capital campaigns, planning stewardship events, and working closely with the University's Vice President of Advancement, Erik Evans, has given her a unique perspective on the transformative impact of philanthropy.

Inspired by her own journey and her son Auston's recent graduation from CU-Bloomsburg's Nursing Program in December 2024, Sharon established this scholarship to honor their shared Bloomsburg experience. The decision to include Auston's name alongside hers in the scholarship title was deeply meaningful to Sharon. It symbolizes the strong bond they share through their education and their commitment to giving back to the community that played such an integral role in their lives.

"This scholarship represents a way for me to not only give back to the University that has given so much to my family but also to create something lasting with my son," said Sharon Fisher. "Including Auston in this experience was important to me because it highlights our Bloomsburg journey and ensures that we both have a lasting impact on future nursing students."

The endowed scholarship fund, established through a beneficiary designation of a life insurance account and supplemented by an annual cash gift, allows the Foundation to activate the scholarship immediately. As a result, the Sharon Fisher '13 and Auston Fisher '23 Nursing Scholarship will begin providing support to CU-Bloomsburg nursing students in the 2024-25 academic year.

This generous gift will offer ongoing support to deserving nursing students, with first preference given to those from Columbia County, PA. The scholarship is renewable, ensuring that recipients can continue to benefit from this financial assistance throughout their academic journey.
