Marcell, White Introduce Bill to Combat Antisemitism

Oct. 02, 2024

HARRISBURG - Reps. Kristin Marcell (R-Bucks) and Martina White (R-Philadelphia) announced the introduction of House Bill 2615 to amend Pennsylvania's Human Relations Act by adopting the International Holocaust Remembrance Alliance's (IHRA) definition of antisemitism. This modern definition can help address the rise of antisemitic incidents across Pennsylvania, particularly in universities, following the Oct. 7, 2023 attacks on Israel by Hamas.

"Jewish Pennsylvanians deserve robust protections from discrimination," said Marcell. "This legislation ensures the Human Relations Act is equipped to address and prevent antisemitism in workplaces, schools and communities."

"There are already 35 other states that took similar action. Pennsylvania is lagging in protecting Jewish people from the rising tide of antisemitism," said White. "Taking action now will help ensure a safer environment for all."

The bill aligns Pennsylvania with other states that have adopted the IHRA definition, helping protect citizens from hostility rooted in their faith and heritage.
