Feedback sought on fast electric vehicle charging locations

Community feedback is being sought on a Ku-ring-gai Council proposal to set aside space in five Council carparks for fast electric vehicle charging.

Across the Ku-ring-gai Council area, some 3,000 electric vehicles were registered as of July 2024. This is one of the highest numbers of electric vehicle registrations for any council area in NSW.

Electric vehicles have many advantages, including the fact they produce almost no air pollution and contribute to the global fight against climate change.

The increasing uptake of electric vehicles will help Ku-ring-gai Council meet its target of net zero community carbon emissions by 2040.

In addition, public electric vehicle chargers bring community members to retail areas and provide an incentive for these members to shop or dine in these areas while the charging is taking place. By doing this, they have the potential to help local businesses.

Council is now seeking feedback on the proposal to install 20 fast charging bays at the following five council carparks:

  • 2 Lord Street, Roseville
  • 11 Bradfield Road, Lindfield
  • 1 Reading Avenue, East Killara
  • 2-8 Turramurra Avenue and Gilroy Lane, Turramurra
  • 9 Coonanbarra Road, Wahroonga

Evie Networks has received a NSW Government grant to install and operate the chargers, which are expected to be operational in 2025.

There are currently 23 public electric vehicle charging ports across Ku-ring-gai, on both private and public land. Council is currently progressing installation of four charging bays at two other locations.

While many community members have access to off-street charging at home, a growing number of members will be reliant on public charging infrastructure.
