The Mesa Police Department is pleased to announce the successful completion of "Operation Safe Summer," a targeted initiative aimed at reducing teen violence during the summer months. The operation, which ran from May 23 - July 31, 2024, focused on curfew violations and loud party calls as part of the departments proactive approach to keeping Mesas youth safe.

Over the 10-week period, Mesa police officers worked diligently to enforce the citys curfew laws, which are designed to keep teenagers off the streets during late hours. Under the curfew law, teens 15 and under cannot be out without a parent or guardian between 10 p.m. and 5:00 a.m., while those age 16 and 17 must be home by midnight.

During the initiative, officers issued 76 citations to teenagers for curfew violations. In addition to curbing unlawful behavior, the departments efforts contributed to a decrease in violent crime involving teens over the summer.

Preliminary crime data indicates a reduction in teen-related violence since the launch of "Operation Safe Summer," underscoring the importance of these enforcement efforts.

The Mesa Police Department remains dedicated to maintaining community safety and will continue to evaluate and implement strategies aimed at reducing crime and fostering a secure environment for all residents.
