SIUE Alum and Tampa Dentist Honored as 2024 FDA Dentist of the Year for Exceptional Leadership and Service

In a momentous celebration at the 2024 FDA Awards Luncheon in Orlando, the Florida Dental Association (FDA) named Christopher Bulnes, DMD, of Tampa as the Dentist of the Year. This prestigious honor highlights his exceptional dedication and transformative contributions to the dental profession, marking a significant milestone in his illustrious career.

A dedicated leader in the dental community, Bulnes has held prominent positions at various levels, including serving as president of the Hillsborough County and West Coast District Dental Associations, and as a member of the FDA Board of Trustees. His influence extends to the national stage as a delegate to the FDA and American Dental Association (ADA) and chair of the ADA Council on Dental Benefits.

Demonstrating his commitment to community service, Bulnes recently co-chaired the FDA Foundation's 2024 Florida Mission of Mercy in Lakeland, which delivered approximately $2.3 million in donated dental care to more than 1,850 patients.

"We are proud to recognize Dr. Bulnes with the Dentist of the Year award," said Drew Eason, executive director, and CEO of the FDA. "He is an outstanding leader who goes above and beyond for the profession and his peers and is dedicated to promoting oral health in our state."

Raised in Tampa, the celebrated dentist pursued an undergraduate degree in chemistry from the University of South Florida before graduating from the Southern Illinois University (SIU) School of Dental Medicine ('00). He further honed his skills by completing an advanced education in general dentistry residency at SIU SDM.

In his practice, Bulnes continues to exemplify excellence and leadership, making a significant impact on the dental health of his patients and the broader community. His recognition as Dentist of the Year highlights not only his professional achievements but also his unwavering commitment to improving oral health care in Florida.
