SUSPECT ARRESTED FOR MULTIPLE SEX CRIME INCIDENTS – ADDITIONAL VICTIMS SOUGHT

Sex Crimes detectives have arrested a suspect for multiple sex crime incidents and believe there may be additional victims.

Through their investigation, Sex Crimes detectives identified the suspect as Melvin Aaron Johnson Jr, a 34-year-old resident of Long Beach, who they believe is responsible for the following incidents:

  • April 2014 - Paramount Blvd and South Street - Forcible lewd act against a child under age 14, against a female minor
  • May 2024 - Long Beach Boulevard and Wardlow Road - Various sexual assaults, against a female adult
  • July 2024 - Long Beach Boulevard and San Antonio Drive - Sexual assault with intent to commit a felony - victim under age 18, against a female minor
  • October 2024 - Orange Avenue and Pacific Coast Highway - Sexual assault with intent to commit a felony, against a female adult
  • October 2024 - Pacific Coast Highway and Pacific Avenue - Possession of a firearm by a felon

Through their investigation, detectives determined suspect Johnson used a firearm in the commission of the crime in several of the incidents above.

Additionally, Johnson is a person of interest in multiple additional sexual assault cases in Los Angeles Sheriff's Department jurisdiction and the state of Nevada.

On Oct. 30, 2024, detectives from the Sex Crimes Detail arrested suspect Johnson in the city of Long Beach. He was transported to the Long Beach City Jail, where he was booked for forcible lewd act against a child under age 14, forcible rape, forcible oral copulation, two counts of sexual assault with intent to commit a felony, sexual battery for the purpose of sexual arousal, sexual battery through restraint, sexual assault with intent to commit a felony - victim under age 18, and possession of a firearm by a felon. Bail was set at $3,560,000.
