GFC Welcomes Johnny Sabo

When I came to the GFC last April, I thought I knew what kind of team I would be joining. Your reputation as a first-class forestry agency was well-known in the South and across the country. Even so, I was - and continue to be - amazed and inspired by your professionalism, expertise, and commitment to serving landowners and protecting Georgia's forests.

As I step into this new role, I am excited about what lies ahead. The work we do is vital, and we are good at getting a job done right. GFC is on a soaring trajectory, and for that, I must thank all of you for the work you completed and the vision you believed in under Tim's leadership. Tim has led this agency with unmatched skill and passion, and now it is our turn to continue to push forward as a team. Change isn't always easy, but it is a constant in life. Someone once told me that "I could be a force for change, or be forced to change." It is a simple, but effective message, and one that I refer to when life around me starts to shift.

I'm convinced, too, that the core principles that have guided me in the past will continue to support GFC's mission and the people we serve.

  • Integrity
  • Respect and Equality
  • Data-driven Decisions
  • A Culture where we Feel Responsible for our own Success

My intent is to always exemplify honesty, a strong work ethic, and a family-first position. That means safety is at the heart of everything we do, both on the job and at home. We must never compromise safety for the sake of any job, ever.

It's inspiring to know that the Georgia Forestry Commission plays such an important role in this state. We are the first line of defense for wildfires, forest health, clean water and environmental services, and of course, landowner services and public outreach. We're proud to serve the #1 Forestry State in the Nation!

Every person at GFC is a leader who should be ready to pivot as situations dictate. And I'd like to encourage each employee to put aside any fears or hesitation to take on new responsibilities. Accepting the challenges that come our way and supporting our fellow team mates can only lead to continued success. We know how good that feels, and we'll never stop striving for more.
