Moulton Tours Senior Care Facility, Affordable Housing Complex Location

LYNN, MA - Today Congressman Seth Moulton toured the new Program for All-Inclusive Care for the Elderly Center in Lynn. He was hosted by 2Life Communities, a nonprofit owner, operator, and developer of senior affordable housing in Greater Boston, and by Element Care PACE, a nonprofit healthcare organization helping older adults live safely and comfortably in their homes.

This tour comes after the Congressman's successful efforts to secure $1 million in federal funding to complete a brand-new affordable housing complex for Seniors in Lynn in Congress's FY24 Appropriations package. The building, named the 2Life Communities Solimine House, will provide 150 new service-enriched, affordable apartments to seniors in the City of Lynn.

"Everyone deserves to be able to age with dignity," said Congressman Moulton. "Part of that is ensuring our seniors can access the support and care they deserve. That's why I'm proud to have secured $1 million to complete the construction of 148 new low-income apartments for seniors in and around the City of Lynn. With the help of these new, supportive housing options from 2Life Communities, we can ensure our elderly neighbors can afford to retire in the place they call home."

During his visit, Rep. Moulton heard from 2Life Communities on the importance of projects like Solimine House in Massachusetts, which has the highest rate of elder economic insecurity nationwide. The 2Life and Element Care PACE teams discussed new changes and benefits they expect to see because of the Affordable Homes Act signed by Massachusetts Governor Maura Healey earlier this month, as well as how integrating housing and healthcare in a unified campus can help seniors to live independently, safely, and comfortably in their homes for as long as possible. The visit culminated in a tour of the Center's state-of-the-art facilities.

The Solimine House campus sits adjacent to the Element Care PACE Center, ensuring residents can have immediate access to medical care, physical and occupational therapy, behavioral health and counseling, and other healthcare services critical to seniors' wellbeing. The project, which has the support of housing and health equity advocates in Lynn, is a direct response to the needs of seniors in the Greater Lynn community.

2Life's model addresses the two biggest threats to aging optimally: affordability and loneliness. Most seniors live on fixed incomes with declining assets, and face an increased risk of loneliness, which has been linked to numerous detrimental health outcomes. By providing deeply supportive, affordable housing and creating dynamic environments where seniors can thrive, 2Life offers seniors the opportunity to age in their communities.

Solimine House is named in honor of David J. Solimine Sr. and his wife, Mary Jane, who have made countless contributions to the city of Lynn. The campus was made possible by a generous contribution from the Solimines' son, David J. Solimine Jr., and his wife, Magnolia Contreras. The construction of Solimine House is also made possible through the support of Rep. Moulton, who secured $1 million in federal funding for the project to help build its Village Center. This includes flexible spaces for fitness and wellness activities, arts and culture programs, lifelong learning, communal dining, and community programming.

"Solimine House addresses the economics of aging through a community-based model, integrating housing with healthcare through collaboration with PACE," said Amy Schectman, CEO of 2Life Communities. "This exciting project wouldn't be possible without Congressman Moulton, and we are so grateful for his leadership and support."

"Having a PACE center connected to the Solimine House significantly enhances our ability to deliver comprehensive clinical and social services," said Element Care CEO Robert D. Wakefield, Jr. "Our partnership with 2Life Communities allows us to package quality housing with easy access to excellent healthcare, thereby addressing all of the factors that influence the health and well-being for many of our community's most at-risk seniors."

Local elected officials, including State Senator Brendan Crighton, State Representative Donald Wong, and members of the Lynn Housing Authority and Neighborhood Development (LHAND), as well as leaders from Mass Senior Action, were also onsite for the tour and to engage in the discussion.

The PACE Center is currently open and serving older adults across the Lynn community. The Center will serve residents of Solimine House who enroll in Element Care PACE after the project's completion in early 2027.
