The ceremony for a new underground tunnel alignment was held this Tuesday to mark progress on the construction of the future Santiago Metro Line 7.

This is the second of a total of 23 tunnel alignments that are contemplated for works on the Metro Line 7, which will connect the municipalities of Renca and Vitacura in 37 minutes.

The works will reduce the time that it currently takes to travel the same route overground by half.

The ceremony was held at the project's construction site number 16, which is located next to the Parque Arauco skate park, at the intersection of Av. Manquehue Norte and Cerro Colorado.

Progress on the new Santiago Metro Line 7

The future Santiago Metro Line 7 project had made 19% progress as of July.

The project for the new metro line has excavated more than five kilometers of tunnels from various work fronts, and two more tunnel alignments are planned between November 2024 and January 2025.

The Line 7 excavation stage involves the construction of 26 kilometers of tunnel, six ventilation shafts and the access galleries necessary for the 19 stations on the route.

The metro project is in the stage of excavating shafts, galleries and tunnels through 41 work fronts. To date, 32 fronts have been handed over to the main contractor and are being excavated, two are in the preliminary stage before excavations begin and six are in the archaeological recovery stage.

On Saturday, August 10, the rails on which the 37 self-driving trains will operate as part of the Line 7 fleet arrived at the Port of San Antonio.
