Introducing Eco-City Homes: Resources and Recognition for Residents

The City of Alexandria is excited to announce Eco-City Homes, a new program to recognize Alexandrians for being sustainable at home, and help you save energy and money while making your home more comfortable, efficient, and healthy. Plus, the program provides information on home energy improvements that could qualify you for thousands of dollars in federal incentives.

Whether you rent or own a house or condo, the Eco-City Homes websitehas information and guidance on actions you can take at home and where to find financial incentives and resources to help you get there. Visit the website to learn more about:

  • Federal tax incentives and utility incentives
  • Income- and age-qualifying free programs
  • Assessing your home energy use
  • Weatherizing your home
  • Home energy efficiency
  • Electrification (converting from gas to electric appliances)
  • Residential renewable energy
  • Water efficiency
  • Waste reduction, recycling, and composting
  • Eco-friendly landscaping
  • And more!

We encourage everyone to apply for recognition: all you need to do is fill out a short online checklist! There are separate applications for renters, condo owners, and homeowners to reflect the different types of actions you can take. Participants get a yard sign and window cling, plus guidance on next steps to take. Visit the recognition program websitefor more information and to fill out an application.
